Ovarian Rejuvenation (PRP)
WHAT IS OVARIAN REJUVENATION (PRP)
Ovarian Rejuvenation using PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a regenerative fertility treatment aimed at improving ovarian function, stimulating dormant follicles, and enhancing egg quality. It is especially useful for women with low ovarian reserve, poor ovarian response, or premature ovarian insufficiency.
PRP is prepared from the patient’s own blood and contains a high concentration of growth factors that support tissue repair, improve blood flow, and may activate ovarian activity.
At Freya Fertility, ovarian PRP is used as an advanced supportive therapy to enhance ovarian response and improve the chances of natural conception or IVF success.
Ovarian PRP is beneficial for patients who:
- Have low AMH or poor ovarian reserve
- Have poor response in previous IVF cycles
- Have premature ovarian insufficiency (POI/POF)
- Are of advanced reproductive age
- Want to improve egg quality and ovarian function
WHAT IS PRP AND HOW DOES IT WORK IN OVARIES?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrated portion of blood that contains platelets rich in growth factors such as PDGF, VEGF, and TGF. These factors play a key role in tissue repair and regeneration.
When PRP is injected into the ovaries:
- It may stimulate dormant follicles
- Improves blood circulation in ovarian tissue
- Supports follicular development and maturation
- Enhances hormonal activity and ovarian response
- May improve egg quality and quantity
Initial Evaluation & Case Assessment
A detailed fertility evaluation is performed including AMH levels, antral follicle count (AFC), hormone profile, and previous IVF history. This helps determine suitability for PRP therapy.
Blood Collection
A small amount of blood (approximately 10–20 ml) is drawn from the patient under sterile conditions.
PRP Preparation (Centrifugation Process)
The collected blood is placed in a centrifuge machine that spins at high speed to separate components. Platelet-rich plasma is isolated and concentrated, ensuring a high level of growth factors.
Ovarian PRP Injection
PRP is injected directly into the ovaries using a minimally invasive technique: Performed under sedation or mild anesthesia for patient comfort A transvaginal ultrasound-guided needle (similar to egg retrieval) is used PRP is carefully injected into one or both ovaries The procedure typically takes 20–30 minutes It is performed under strict sterile conditions
Post-Procedure Recovery
Patients are observed for a short period after the procedure Mild discomfort or spotting may occur but usually resolves quickly Most patients can resume normal activities within 24 hours
Ovarian Response Monitoring
Over the next few weeks to months, ovarian function is monitored through: AMH levels Hormonal profile Ultrasound (follicle growth and count)
Fertility Treatment Planning
Based on response, further steps may include: Natural conception attempts Ovulation induction IVF cycle planning
Egg Retrieval / Ovulation Support
If follicles develop, egg retrieval or ovulation support is provided to maximize chances of pregnancy.
Pregnancy Monitoring & Follow-Up
Once pregnancy is achieved, continuous monitoring and support are provided.
